KYLIN H LEE, PH.D.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT DOES THE INITIAL SESSION LOOK LIKE?
Our first session is an intake, in which we go over informed consent, and then get an assessment of what is going on for you. I will ask questions about current symptoms, history, and risk factors. It is important that I have clear picture of what is going on for you so that we can create a plan for what is going to get you feeling better.
WHAT IS THERAPY LIKE WITH YOU?
We work together to get you where you want to be. I want my clients to feel supported and challenged. Our work may involve tears and deep exploration, but also laughter and celebrating. See more about how I work here.
HOW DO YOU CONCEPTUALIZE THE MOVEMENT FOR RACIAL JUSTICE RELATING TO THERAPY?
Environmental and historical influences absolutely impact mental health. It is important to acknowledge that privilege, power, and oppression have impacted the mental health of many, as well as access to mental health services. I work from an anti-racist framework and think it is important for me to be an activist in my personal and professional life.
DO YOU PROVIDE ONLINE OR IN-PERSON THERAPY?
Yes to both! Online therapy, or telehealth, is therapy provided through a secure video platform or by telephone. I use the service Doxy.me to provide HIPPA compliant, secure video conferencing. Many clients appreciate the convenience of telehealth and research shows that it is an effective mode of treatment.
I also see clients in person at my office at 4131 Spicewood Springs Road, Austin TX 78759
DO YOU OFFER SLIDING SCALE FEES?
Yes, I do! I have a set number of clinical hours each week reserved for sliding scale clients. They are first come, first serve and directed at those who have historically been oppressed and marginalized regarding access to mental health.
DO YOU HAVE SPECIALTIES?
I am a generalist with 15 years of experience and am well versed in most common mental health concerns including mood disorders (anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder), adjustments regarding life changes, identity, trauma, and interpersonal dynamics. I am particularly good at helping Millennials and Gen Z'ers find their way in relationships, work, and identity.
I don't work with clients under the age or 18 or provide couples' therapy.
CAN YOU SEE ME EVEN IF I LIVE IN ANOTHER STATE?
Possibly. I am licensed to practice in Texas, but am also approved through Psychology Interjurisdiction (PSYPACT) to practice via telehealth in Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, District of Columbia, Georgia, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, and Virginia.
